Roger Sherman —patriot, son of Connecticut, Founding Father, and champion of liberty— was a leading voice for sound money and profitable labor. He warned that government was capable of destroying both. More than two centuries later, his concerns about the economy remain pressing, true, and consequential.
At the Roger Sherman Liberty Center, we are no less concerned with sound economic policy for the Nutmeg State. High taxes and exorbitant debt have harmed the economic vitality of Connecticut. As a non partisan education and advocacy group, our purpose is to restore the strength of our state by advancing conservative economic principles. We are determined to halt the aggrandizement of state government, which through overregulation and an insatiable consumption of the people’s hard-earned wealth, torments taxpayers, threatens overburdened small businesses, and saddles this and future generations with unsustainable debt.
“…guard such privileges [liberties] by the strongest expressions, [for] if you leave the legislative and executive power in the hands of those who are or may be disposed to deprive you of them – you are but slaves.” – Roger Sherman
